Mozilla Bangladesh - SuMo Community Meetup 2015

SuMo Community of Mozilla Bangladesh has arranged a two day long meetup on 29 & 30 may. SuMo is the short form of Mozilla Support. SuMo contributors give support to users of different Mozilla products. There is an awesome community here in Bangladesh. I am also one of the contributor. I was lucky to get invited in this meetup. So, now I am sharing some of my experiences of these two days.

In SuMo, there are many articles to help users. We localize those articles in our language so that everyone in our country can easily understand them. There is also a support forum where we answer questions of users from all around the world. Last year (2014), we did some awesome jobs. We finished the Top 100 KB article localization. Then we localized all the support articles of all the products. It was a very difficult task. And we got huge success. We also localized all the articles of Firefox OS in Bangla. So, this meetup was mainly to celebrate our great success of the last year and plan for the upcoming days.

First Day

The event started at 9am in MIDAS center located in Dhanmondi. Event started with swag distribution. There were some awesome swags including Mozilla Backpack, Open Shades, Chocolates, Stickers, Tshirt etc.

Swag Distribution

After swag distribution and breakfast, first session started. Mozillian Shashoto Seeam took a session about "What is Mozilla". He told about history of Firefox Browser and Mozilla. Why it is different from others and about it's goals.

Then Ashfaq Hossain started his session about "Introduction to SuMo: Why Support is Important". He talked about various sections in Support forum like Localization, Article Update, English Article Writing, Twitter Support and Kitsune. He also asked all the contributors to introduce themselves.

Shashoto Seeam came again and started talking about how to answer questions in Support Forum. After that prayer and luch break started. Foods were really good. Most awesome thing was there were lots of coffee, chips and cold drinks to keep us energized.

And then Safwan Rahman, who is also known as SuMo King (for his awesome contribution ofcourse!) started a hands-on session on answering forum questions. They tried to answer the live questions in the support forum. Then Safwan took a session about How to Write or update English KB article. It was the last session for that day.

It was raining outside in the evening. The weather was cool. Ashickur Rahman Noor bro started a branstorming session. A piece of paper was given to everyone and they wrote ideas to increase Support Forum users. Then we planned about our upcoming events.

At the end of the day Foxy came !!

Second Day

Second day started with Safwan Rahman's another session on "Firefox Crash Report Analysis". He discussed about the importance of crash report and how to analyze them.

After that Pranjal Chakraborty and me took a session about "How To Update Bengali KB Articles". We also gave updating tasks to the contributors.

At the same time, Python developers were discussing about contributing in Kistune Codebase. After the lunch we discussed plans and events for the upcoming years. You see them HERE.

At the end of the meetup Aschikur Rahman Noor asked everyone the about feedback of the event. And that was a pretty funny and enjoying moment. Thanks to all the volunteers, participants and speakers for arranging this splendid meetup. I met some cool guys like Ashikur Rahman Amit, Nure Alam Miaji, Rayhan and many more. I used to work together with these fine peoples in online but never got the opportunity to meet them face-to-face. This meetup was great for strengthening the communication between the SuMo Warriors.

So that's all about the meetup. Hope to get more rocking events from Mozilla like this. Raiyad Raad signing out.
